Supporting African cotton farmers.

Buying these polo shirts and round neck T-shirts means you’re supporting the Cottonmade in Africa Initiative (CmiA) and sustainable cotton production in Africa. This helps to improve living conditions for African cotton farmers and their families. The CmiA Initiative supports smallholder farmers on their way out of poverty by teaching environmentally friendly and efficient methods of cultivation. For more information visit cottonmadeinafrica.org

In 2019, just about 900,000 smallholders in 11 African countries – including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia – were growing cotton according to the CmiA standards. They produced nearly 600,000 tonnes of sustainable cotton, benefitted from business and agricultural training and successfully implemented the Cotton made in Africa standards. With a newly verified partner in Chad, the initiative is expanding its network this year.

"At the beginning we were wondering if bio-pesticides really work. But now we are very happy with it. With the help of bio-pesticides we were able to protect our cotton better against pests and thus harvest more cotton at the end of the season than the year before."
